Photographer: Sharon Hall
Sharon Hall writes of her practice ‘My work explores certain ideas around colour interaction, both as a vehicle for representation and as a concrete thing-in-itself. The paintings are both autonomous, and yet also invite the possibility of ensemble or installation and the interaction with architecture; while they examine certain aspects of inherited modernist forms these are ‘repurposed’ in a new way.’
Hall studied at Coventry Polytechnic and the Slade School of Fine Art. She is based in Manchester, London and Italy. She has been included in a curated survey show, META, of contemporary abstract painting with venues in Cambridge and London, Zombie Modernism - a curated show at Magras|Naudet Gallery, Manchester and Unspecific Objects, a curated show at the Royal Standard, Liverpool. In 2013 she held a major one person show Colour In Place in the Museum Libero Andreotti, Palazzo del Podesta, Pescia in Pistoia northern Italy. In 2014 she was included in a group exhibition, Colour/Boundary, at Gallery North, Newcastle.
Hall has work in several important collections including Artsite in New York, Norton Rose, City of London and the Prudential Collection, New Jersey. She has been the recipient of numerous prizes, including the Rome Award in Painting, a French Government Scholarship, the Stanley Picker Lectureship at Kingston University and various Arts Council Awards. She is currently Senior Lecturer in Painting at Manchester School of Art.
